Political Debate Club of Interparty and Social Dialogue was initiated by the Nur Otan Institute for Parliamentary Development together with Kazakhstan UNDP and Astana OSCE Centre. The first session of the Club was on 27 March 2008 in Astana, in the office of Nur Otan. The session discussed prospects of local governance introduction in Kazakhstan and looked into activities-related issues. The second session took place in Borovoye village (Akmola Oblast) on 28 April 2008. AK ZHOL brought forward for discussion the following theme: Development of Trade Unions in Kazakhstan: Challenges and Prospects. The agenda of the third session held in Zeren Leisure Center in Zerenda village (Akmola Oblast) on 27 June 2008 focused on ‘Constitutional Reform: Outcomes of First Six Months’. The fourth session held on 5 September 2008 in OK ZHETPES Resort Center in Borovoye village (Akmola Oblast) discussed ‘Concept for the Draft Law on Local Governance in the Republic of Kazakhstan’. Political Club sessions were attended by Parliamentarians, representatives of the Constitutional Council, Central Election Commission, Supreme Court, central government authorities, political parties, the Peoples’ Assembly of Kazakhstan, trade unions, civil society institutions as well as scientists and experts. The suggestions made during sessions were translated into recommendations reflecting specific views of the parties, which were sent off to relevant authorities.
